As temperatures rise, it’s important to remember that dogs and cats can be affected by the heat much more quickly than people.
Here are a few tips to help keep your furry family members safe:
π§ Always provide access to fresh, cool water
π³ Ensure pets have plenty of shade when outdoors
πΆ Walk dogs during the cooler morning or evening hours
π‘οΈ Avoid hot pavement, which can burn sensitive paw pads
π Keep pets indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated areas during extreme heat
π Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes
πΊ Make sure outdoor cats have access to cool, shaded resting areas and fresh water
Signs of heat stress can include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, bright red gums, or collapse. Heatstroke is a medical emergency and can become life-threatening very quickly.
